Tomorrow begins the collection of Dad’s stem cells, as I have said he has been receiving injections all week to increase the stems cells in his body. Now, there is a new injection that begins tonight, it works with his combination of medicines to help release the stem cells into the bloodstream by disrupting the bond that normally keeps the stem cells anchored to the bone marrow.
This process will hopefully increase the stem cells so that they will only have to do one day of collection, my mom has requested prayer for just that. She is asking that we all pray that they are able to collect all of the stem cells that they need in one day(tomorrow). He will be hooked up to a machine that will filter all of his blood out of his body, it will keep the stem cells and return the blood back into his body. This should take 3-4 hours. Each hour that he is hooked up to the machine, all of the blood in his body will filter through the machine. The advances that are being made in medicine are so cool!
Once they have all the stem cells they need, they will freeze them. He will get them back at a later date, after chemo, etc. We will cover that when we get there!
Once again, our whole family is overwhelmed by all of the love and support we have been shown throughout this process. Thank you all for your love and prayers, keep them coming! I’ll share more tomorrow after I get with them in Nashville.
