- What are you thankful for?
- What do you pray about?
- What consumes you?
- How do you interact with those you come into contact with on a daily basis? What do they see in you?
In my Bible study, “The Armor of God”, by Priscilla Shirer she says this in an area of the study where we are learning about the sandals of peace. “When we choose thankful prayer over wallowing in anxiety and worry, we are demonstrating an unwavering trust in God. Prayer shrouded in gratitude expresses a firm faith. Concentrating on Him instead of being absorbed by our circumstances tells the Lord that we believe He is able to override and overcome even the most difficult issues. This kind of faith catches His attention, and He responds by activating His peace within us a peace that will not only guard but also guide us by helping us to discern the direction God is leading us to take our lives.”
I loved this when I read it! How do you pray, is it only when you are in need or do you meet with Him daily and thank Him for the many blessings that you have! I have gone through many different seasons in my life, I get into good routines and then break them easily. However, currently I am in a steady season, I try to start every day with God. It is very quiet and I find my days going so much smoother, I have invited Him into every aspect of my life. Even into my struggle to eat better, He is helping me accomplish things that I could never do on my own.
There was a time when I barely ever prayed because I thought, why? He already knows everything anyway, why should I explain it to Him! That’s not it at all, it’s about gaining a personal relationship with Him! I use this phrase all of the time with the youth at our church, if you have a friend but never speak to them, how does your relationship turn out? Usually not good, so is the same with God. We have to speak with Him, spend time daily with Him, learn everything we can about Him and He will draw us near to Him. We will get His attention! Do you want God’s attention? I know I do!
Once you start making Him part of your daily life, everything else sort of falls into place. Trust Him, lean into Him!
Let Him be what consumes you! Don’t let the daily grind take over, let His peace take over. Let Him in rule in your life, slow down and make time for the one who made you.
Let Him be highlighted in your daily interactions because of the peace that you exhibit to all that you encounter. Be attentive to the people around you, be available to those in need. Let God use you, listen to the still small whisper, your life can literally be changed forever!
The end of my Proverbs 31 devotion said this today, “These steps may be uncomfortable, and sometimes our efforts insignificant in the grand scheme of things. But together, as we all take these small steps side by side, we are able to make such a great eternal impact on the world around us. One that will bring God glory.
Make an impact on someone today, if we are all doing it we can begin to be the change we want to see in our world!
