“And then take on an entirely new way of life-a God fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you.”
Ephesians 4:24 (MSG)
Is this verse something that you are striving for? Do you genuinely want to change your life for the better or do you find yourself spinning your wheels stuck in repetitive bad habits?
That is a tough question to answer because sometimes we like some things that we know we must give up. However the bible says in Luke 9:23, “Then He said to them all, Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”
This made me think of something that my Dad says, “you have to die to something everyday.” He means, you are not going to get everything right every time but you get a fresh start each day!
Denying ourselves is hard, but it is a necessary step to moving forward in our daily walk. Lysa Terkeurst put it this way in my devotion today, If we are desiring to draw closer to God, we’ll have to distance ourselves from whatever is distracting us. That is so right!
This will look so different for each of us, I have learned a lot from Lysa’s bible studies and books, she has started an app called First 5! I love it, the goal is that you give your first 5 minutes of the day to God everyday! It helps you tackle whatever the day may bring. There was a time not too long ago when that was all I had to hold on to! Our struggles seemed to grow larger everyday and I would continue to give the first part of each day! I have grown leaps and bounds through this! It is so important!
I deny myself just a little extra sleep in the morning to spend quiet alone time with God. It is changing me everyday! It is so great to be free of distractions, to sit and learn and reflect! I can think and hear so clearly, it has really turned into a gift to myself instead of denying sleep.
So, what is distracting you? Think and pray about it today. You may not even realize what it is, but if you earnestly seek God , He will help you pinpoint it and help you work on weeding it out.
There are always things each of us can do and change to become better people, God will meet you right where you are. It’s not expected to happen overnight, you just have to put forth the effort and He will meet you there. It’s a learning process that never stops, it’s ever-changing as we grow and change into His image!
Ephesians 4:24 is a large statement, think about what you desire? Is this a message for you? Do you want a new way of life? It’s possible if that is what you desire! It literally starts on the inside and if you want it, it’s all yours! You give a little and He will give a whole lot!
