There is a sign that says not all who wander our lost. While this is sometimes true, sometimes it is not. Don’t get me wrong, I love the adventure of a road trip with no finite plans. However, I’m talking about wandering around with our lives, trying to find our next move, figuring out where to possibly go from here. We’re happy, sad, lonely, ungrateful or confused at the direction to take our life in. But the question here, is do we really have it that bad? Or our we just having a pity party for ourselves because we think we deserve more?
I was having a conversation yesterday with a friend, when we came across a serious question to ask ourselves? Are we like the Israelites wandering in the desert for 40 years grumbling because things aren’t going exactly like we think they should? It’s a very real and honest question to ask yourself.
The Israelites had been freed from slavery, they had waters literally parted for them, God sent food down from heaven when they were hungry. He provided for their every need yet they complained. Everytime I hear that story, I think how ungrateful could they be. I think we all have tendencies to be like the Israelites. We may not mean to or realize it, God provides everything we need yet we complain. We don’t have enough, this isn’t working for me, etc. If our basic needs our met, how is this not enough, our children are vibrant and healthy, how is this not enough?
We have become a picky people who want our way instead of God’s way. It’s sounds crazy but it’s true for each of us at different times. We have to become happy with what God provides and learn from Him in the waiting, like it or not He is in charge. He has a far better plan for us than we can imagine.
I know for a fact that I do this, and it’s not easy to admit. I complain, then I see someone who has it way worse and I wonder what is wrong with me. I get aggravated when things don’t go my way, I don’t listen to reason from God or people for that matter. I work on this daily, God is teaching me to stop wandering and be happy right where I am in this exact moment. It is changing me from the inside out.
Truth is, we all have a list of stuff we could complain about, however we also have a list of things we could be grateful for. Let’s focus on that list, let’s be happy with God’s plan for our lives. Let’s live each day to the fullest! Don’t miss life going on in front of you because you are yearning for something more, you may be missing what He is asking or showing you in the present.
I have wandered for too long, I have not been obedient or grateful for my many blessings every time, all of the time. I had to be pushed to my limit, I was selfish, I have wanted my way over His most of my life. I don’t want to wander, I don’t want to be ungrateful or unhappy! I want to cherish every moment and give thanksgiving for everything I have. It’s that simple, start today! Give thanks to God for what you have, don’t complain today. Notice all that is around you! Live in the present!
Don’t let this go on for one more second, I don’t think any of us want to wander for 40 years grumbling and unhappy. Give up control, make the choice today. He will meet you there!
