Matthew 5: 14-16 says,
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill can’t be hidden. Also, people do not light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand. Then it gives light to everyone in the house.”
I love this verse! This verse is an opportunity for us, a reminder of the path of life! We can’t learn and grow and have all of the love of Christ in our lives and then close up and keep it for ourselves. We have to give light to everyone! We have to share what we know so others can grow and flourish.
It is our job as Christian’s, and it is very serious and important. We must be intentional, we can’t put a bowl over our lamps. We have to give it away, and not just to people we are comfortable with. We have to accept the challenge and love everyone! Yes, I just said everyone! I however did not say that part was easy. We have to love, my Dad famously says, “Jesus did 2 things on earth, love and serve.” Those are the same things we are to do if we are trying to grow into His image.
When we are loving a stranger, when we are giving compassion to the elderly, when we are kind to a foreigner, when we love the hard to love we are actually loving Jesus. I am not saying bend over backwards and let people trample you, I am saying love them in spite of them.
That is where these people we love will find Jesus, coming through the world right at them. We can’t change anything or anyone on our own, only God can do that. We have never been called to do complete makeovers, it’s not worth the time in trying. It will exhaust you, but if you give them over to God and love them unconditionally, He will do the rest. The other key to note here, is in His time! Whoo! You can do it, He always makes it worth the wait!
Put your lamp on a stand so it can radiate light all around you for everyone to see! God will use you, He will take you places you have only dreamed of. Don’t wait any longer, the time is now. One day Jesus is going to return to earth, we have a job to do until then. I read this morning in 2 Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slow to keep His promise. He is not slow in the way some people understand it. Instead, He is patient with you. He doesn’t want anyone to be destroyed. Instead, he wants all people to turn away from their sins.”
What are you waiting for? I know, He is waiting for you.
Or maybe you do follow Him whole heartedly, let your love be genuine.
He wants everyone to know His love, grace and forgiveness, He wants us to all spend eternity with Him. He is patiently waiting for us to all to fill the job position He has opened for us. Go to work for Him. It will be the best job you have ever had!
I’m very grateful He is patient, I have pushed every limit! I grew up knowing all of these things, how much He wanted me to love and serve Him. I’ll never be able to explain why I lived so selfishly for so long but that isn’t what the focus should be on. It is on what I am doing right now! And right now, I am listening to God. I am letting Him love and rule in my life.
I don’t live in a world of flowers and fairy tales, I live in a camper when I’m not staying in my parents basement. I fuss at my children when I think they should act decent in public, then feel bad because I was mad at them for not acting up to others standards, not my own. Sometimes, when I try to do things on the computer, I’m like a dinosaur trying to use it, and I spend one whole afternoon ordering 3 pictures! Sometimes I get tired and get in a bad mood. Okay, these were all things that happened to me yesterday, ha! Well besides where I live, that’s been going on for 6 months or so.?
The point is, and I’ve said it before. My circumstances don’t define me. What defines me is my relationship with Christ and how I use it to serve Him daily. Each day is a new day! I feel like a say that a lot, but I’m not bringing yesterday’s short coming to today, I get a new start today a new go at it! Do the best you can today, let your lamp shine a bit brighter everyday. We will all eventually get this thing right if we keep trying!
