I pray your Tuesday is off to a great start, mine is fabulous. I love this time of year, all of the Christmas festivities, the fun days ahead, planning for Christmas surprises. It’s all very exciting but can get a bit tense at times. I try to take each day as it comes and not get too caught up. Yesterday, I found myself getting a bit stressed by all the planning, I took a step back and realized all I have to be grateful for, put on a fresh attitude and hit it again.
I think there is a lot to be said for taking a step back and assessing the situation. It is a glimpse I think each of us should do from time to time with our life. How are things going daily, do you find yourself stressed, dreading things, aggravated easily. If you answer yes, I think it is important to take a look at what makes you tick and invite God into these places.
We can not always choose our environment or our settings but we can always control our responses and that can change the whole outcome of any and every situation. How we respond to every circumstance can change so many variables in our lives. It builds growth and character in us when we choose to respond in love and grace. This is definitely a practice to work on, it takes some effort on our part. It’s hard to adjust this way of thinking, to go from always being on defense to simply loving and living.
How do we do it? Where do we start? I think through some serious self-examination.
Listening to the truth and surrounding ourselves with things and people who lift us up. Are you that type of person for the people in your life? Or do you cast judgement and always feel the need to be right? Umm, that one is hard for me to admit but I used to always think that my way was the best and only way. It’s embarrassing to admit, but it’s true. I never liked listening to anyone else’s ideas, I wanted to be in control. This is an area I am working on, it is requiring me to let go of a lot of control. That is again where I am gaining freedom, I’m repeatedly taught this lesson because this is a hard habit to break. However, going with the flow is so much easier. Listening to other opinions and taking other ideas into consideration opens my eyes to so much more. Living day-to-day is changing my perspective, I’m enjoying my life so much more.
Another way we can examine ourselves is to STOP COMPARING! Sure, it is easy to look at someone living a way worse lifestyle than us and say well at least I’m not that bad…oh no, don’t fall into this trap for one more second. Each of us are living our own lives, we will each have to answer for our own decisions and lifestyle.
Self-justification can be a major trap, live your own life! We can not base our Christian walk on anyone else’s, we have all been called to a very specific purpose and each have a very important role to fill. We can’t all do the same job, we each have out own job to complete the big picture.
In a factory everyone can not all make the same part, each person makes their own part and then they all put them together to make the final product. We are all working on our piece as to what we can contribute to the world. If you aren’t sure of your part, God can help you realize your contribution.
Spend time praying and seeking God’s direction for your life. He will speak to you and show you. It will be one of the most fulfilling things you can do for yourself.
Thank you for reading what I have to say today, I pray that we all work together to bring good things to our world. To share life and love, stop the rampant violence and chaos. I want us to be the voice of reason, clarity and love. Let me know where you fit in and what you want to contribute?
