I’m going to share a little bit about me and how and why I say what I do. There is not really any grand revelation to be shared here, my life is me simply being me. A lot of the things, basically all of the things that I share are relevant in my life at the present time. I refer back to them, I have to remind myself daily of life’s lessons. I can easily be swayed and persuaded away from the truth, I am human. I encounter things each day that require me to remind myself who I am and what I stand for, my nerves and patience get tested. I would like to say that I always respond with love and grace, I do strive for it but I do certainly fall short at times.
I think this is true for all of us, I can be sailing along peacefully and then I get a text that wrecks my pleasant thoughts, I can get angry when I know I should be showing love and compassion. How do we redirect our thoughts. How do we keep in perfect peace? These are all important and good questions to ask. There is a simple answer, but it requires something from us.
We have to look deep within ourselves, like I mean be real with yourself. Don’t put on a false front, don’t hide behind anything, don’t make one excuse. Search yourself, what do you really want out of your life?
Invest in yourself, these are methods that are getting me where I want to be in life:
- Bible study, I have found that this is a great way to keep me accountable. It is something that requires my daily attention and then discussing the study with a friend every couple of weeks grows my faith. I am currently doing the study, “The Armor of God” by Priscilla Shirer. It is challenging me and changing my life for the better.
- Read a good book that speaks truth into your life, it can begin a wonderful change in you. I am a few chapters into “befriend” by Scott Sauls, it is changing my perspective for sure. I have a few other suggestions if you need one.
- Start each day fresh, I wake up early and have quiet time all to myself. I don’t do one chore before I sit down, this one will change your life. (most days this is the only time I actually get all to myself, I treasure it!) I can really tell on the days I choose not to do this.
- Read a daily devotion, I have 2 that I start each day with during the quiet time I mentioned above. They are both related to Proverbs31.org, check out their material. They even do online bible studies if you don’t have an accountability partner to do one with.
Find out who YOU are all my yourself, not you as a spouse, parent, daughter or son, etc.. Who are you, what do you really want for your life, in the book “befriend” I am reading, he was talking about eulogy’s. What do you want yours to sound like, live your life filling in those spaces.
Now that I am finding out what I want out of life, I am investing in other areas. Starting with my marriage first, our life is great but we fight some real challenges. Some weeks we live separate lives, I am in one place with the boys and he is in another working hard day and night. When we get to finally be together, we have to be intentional about our love for each other. We have to come back together as one, that is difficult for us sometimes. We have a Christ centered marriage, so we have a lot of tools we utilize to make our life work, it does require a lot from both of us though. There a lot of unconditional love and grace given, one way we are going to invest back into our marriage is to do a 31 day challenge, I am anxiously awaiting the books arrival now. I will keep you informed, but it looks great! We have done the Love Dare in the past, and it was great for our relationship. It will be a daily commitment, but it will be more than worth it. Allen doesn’t actually know about this one yet, except for seeing the debit, and I guess just now as he read it ;0), he will pitch in and do his part because he loves me and most importantly because he loves God, he is always such a good sport.
If I’m being honest, I need to work on being the Mother that God wants me to be. I do love my boys, but sometimes my patience runs thin, this will definitely be my next area of focus.
Each of us have different goals and lives, we each have different callings. No one can tell you that, you have to search your heart and seek God to find it. I hope that you will make that investment in your self in the coming year, what if we all do it. What if our whole world did it, what a great place we will live in. I love that we have a Christian Governor, I was reading an article about how he is declaring 2017 a “Year of the Bible” in Kentucky. I am seeing good things all around, people are starving for a better world, a better place to live and be. Let’s make that happen, I know I want it for myself, my life, my family and surroundings. IT STARTS WITHIN EACH OF US!
I want to leave this verse with you that stuck out to me today, 1 Peter 1:13-16, “Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
