I wanted to share a bit about where I come from today! Most of you that follow me, know my parents as well as you know me. After all, this blog began as an update to my Dad’s progress in his journey with Multiple Myeloma. As I was reflecting this today, I was overwhelmed with thanksgiving. So, I thought I would share with you what it is to live a week as “C.G.(Squeak) and Lynda!
They are currently in Venice Florida “snow birding”, while we all miss them, they are exactly where they need to be. It is nice and warm there and they get to spend time with my aunts and uncles among other friends and neighbors they have met. We all send each other pics and facetime, this was from a group text that we got. They were enjoying one of their gift cards we sent them off with at Cracker Barrel. I think it is only fitting that I begin with this, so this was Sunday. They were enjoying brunch after church, they have become a part of a wonderful church there. That is the first thing that I want to say that defines them! They have amazing faith, my mother is the strongest woman of Christ that I know. She has modeled an example for all of us to follow that honors Christ with her life. She hasn’t winced once as a caretaker for Dad during this life altering process, and he is a needy patient. (Ha, Dad; you know its true) My Dad stands in front of you in this picture as a “cancer free” patient! His numbers remain low, he has his blood tested weekly. Dr. visits have just become a part of life and he handles them like a champ.
Last Monday, he had to have his blood work and then immediately following they went on a Florida Adventure. If you know him, then you know he bleeds blue! Kentucky Blue and Detroit Tigers blue are the shades that I am referring to. There are so many cool things about this day for them, they went to Lakeland for a Tigers Spring Training Game.
Something extra special about this picture is that he is pictured with one of his ICU nurses, there were many times during his diagnosis that all we could do was pray. He had many ups and downs, they were just as scary each time. What is also fun is that she is a Campbellsville girl and she is married to a Detroit Tiger. Match made in heaven for Dad! She was so sweet to go and visit he and mom at the game and then they got to visit with her and her husband. I love that they made this day extra special for my parents!
It really sometimes is the little things that mean the most. I’m thankful for such wonderful people that fill our earth! And to top it off, the Tigers came back in the 8th inning to defeat the Braves. Such a wonderful sun shiny day for my mom and dad. Just think he supposedly has a terminal illness. Life really is what you make it, they face each day as it comes. As we all should, never take one breath for granted. These two are living proof!
So, if your following along, this is only Tuesday! They are choosing to live a life that is full of life! No, every day is not perfect but they make the best of their circumstances. So, by Tuesday they were off to lunch with old friends passing through. God sends something that blesses them every day, because they are open and receptive to his blessings. The rest of their week was full of good weather, because Dad really does rub that part it. 😉 They went to lunch with my aunt and uncle the next day, heard some banjos and just enjoyed another day of life. Each day really is a gift.
So, life goes on. We celebrated our March birthdays here in KY with their legacy.
There is so much love and legacy here, its three of their great-granddaughters and their two youngest grandsons. They all love each other passionately, that love has been modeled to them by their amazing grandparents and trickled down through each generation. We are not a perfect family, but we love each other no matter what.
My parents lives have not always been easy, as a matter of fact they face trials daily. However, their trials and circumstances are not what define them. Their life is what defines them and how they live it. They live each day to the fullest, because each day literally is a gift. They have an amazing outlook, and often say that we are all terminal and that we don’t really know when our time will come, they are so right. That is not scary if you are living each day to the fullest in Gods will for your life.
So, C.G. and Lynda Collins are amazing people, I am so grateful they are MY parents! They have shown me unconditional love all of my life, Lord knows I added a lot of that gray hair! They have always loved me no matter what, they have given me a great example of what love and a Christian marriage looks like. They have shared their passions with us, we have followed in their footsteps to some degree. Their story is far from over, so here is to another day for them in the Florida sunshine! Pray for them, praise God that they are alive and well! And take their example and run with it, Live a life that honors Christ! No matter what life throws at you, you will overcome with God on your side!
