I’ve told you before, but I’m saying it again. If you don’t have the First 5 app, get it! I love it! It is short and sweet and to the point and a great way to start the day. I will admit I’m a few days behind, well okay weeks. I was doing a different study and couldn’t keep up with all of them at the same time, however they have archives and it’s easy to pick right back up where I left off. I’m telling you all of that to say this, the place where I left off is right where I needed to be.
Today, it was talking about a man in Judges. He was a simple man, a farmer and he saved the nation of Israel. The points that stuck out in my head that I want to share are so simple and so life-giving all at the same time.
- He offered God his willingness.
- He used what God had given him.
- He stayed true to who He was.
Wow! So simple, yet so relevant in our everyday lives. That is all God is asking of us. Being a child of God is not some elaborate scheme or plan, this reminded me how simple it really is and how complex we often times make it. Let’s break it down.
He offered his willingness, are you willing? God can use you today in a mighty way and He wants to! Are you willing? Are you giving Him your time? Are you listening to His still small voice speaking to you? Offer God your willingness today, don’t make any excuses. Be available.
He used what God had given him, I’m so guilty of saying that I’m ill prepared for something because I think I need more. This farmer defeated a 600 man army with the homemade tool he had. He didn’t make excuses saying he wasn’t equipped, he went for it knowing and believing God was on his side.
He stayed true to who he was, I think this one may be the hardest. God created each of us uniquely different, no two people are exactly alike. We are all supposed to bring different talents and qualities to this world. Don’t stray from being true to who you are, especially to whose you are! Don’t make false idols, don’t be strayed away by negative thoughts or things that don’t resemble your true self! Be who you were created to be, you are awesome just the way you are, don’t let anyone or anything tell you any different.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
I think these verses from Galatians offer a great place for us to start so we can be true to who we are and to use the talents that God has given us. If we are true to ourselves and God, we will search in our own hearts to see how we can better serve God. We can’t look to our left and to our right to see what our neighbor is doing, while they may be a good example to us , we must remain on OUR own paths and offer our talents to God so he can put us to work where he wants us. By growing in the fruits of the Spirit, we can become more like Christ to have a better understanding of Him as well as our direction in life. Use the Bible as a tool for your growth in Him, He will use it to speak into your life. Again, apps like the First 5 are a great place to start if you don’t currently have a go to. It will give you guidance and bring the Bible to life.
God made you, each part of you! Love yourself and honor Him by living a life that brings Him glory. This is the first step of staying true to yourself, don’t worry what others think of you or how they view you. If you want to worry, worry about how God views you.
Psalm 139:13-14 says this life giving truth, For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
He made you just the way he wanted you, embrace this truth today and get out there and live for Him! Be willing and use what He has given you, you are more than equipped!
