My sister said this to me over the weekend, “Expect the unexpected” it was the title of a sermon that she had recently heard. I haven’t been able to get the phrase out of my head, I am fitting it into so many scenarios of life.
Do you expect the unexpected or do you just think you are stuck in your situation? Because if you think you are stuck, then you are exactly who I am referring to today. Life is not meant to be predictable and routine, not so at all, especially if you are allowing room for God to move. God wants to do the unexpected in our lives, He wants to blow our minds. One reason may be so He can get our attention. I know that I sadly have to sometimes be blown away to get it.
I have seen God move in many ways in my short 37 years. The first miracle that I can really remember was when I was in the 8th grade. And God did something big, He showed up huge. It’s hard to believe any faith could falter after seeing life brought back into someone, however, that was the prayer of my mother for my nephew and God answered it! My nephew, Brandon, was 4 at the time, he was in a four wheeler accident and as a result severely hurt his head, brain, skull and much more. He actually died on the table in our local emergency room, he was immediately flown to a larger hospital. His life was very uncertain, I will ever remember that day. We also flew that day, but it was in a car, we safely made a 1:30 trip in 50 minutes. 😉 my dad had driving skills. When Brandon left in the helicopter, the hope was that he would make it Louisville alive. Not only was he alive, but the part of his skull that was puncturing his brain was now cushioned by a blood clot (preventing pressure on his brain). I mean how else can you explain that, I was so strong in my faith in that day. I believed he would be ok at my young age of 13, I knew it. Not only was he okay, but he was back at home in less than a week! He didn’t even spend 7 days in the hospital, are you grasping this? My mom was babysitting him a few months later and they were watching a video with Jesus in it and he told her that the picture of Jesus on tv was not what Jesus really looked like. Wait, what!! He said Jesus had carried him in the clouds, oh really! Maybe that explains why he is perfectly healthy today, Jesus has watched over Brandon thousands of times since then…he definitely pushes it! ha. Expect the unexpected!
That used to be my go to story, anytime someone didn’t believe in Jesus. I haven’t really shared it much recently, it is something that I definitely clung to when I couldn’t keep the faith at different times over the last 20+ years. It really is miraculous, something only Jesus can do. We expected the unexpected from God during that time and we got it!
I want to encourage you today, God wants to do the unexpected in our lives. He wants to be there for us and come through for us, we just have to let Him. We have to submit to His will for our lives and give Him control of our lives and situations. We gave Brandon to Jesus on that sunny day in May 1993 and He gave Him back to us whole and well. And what if it was just so you could read about his story today and believe! It was worth every bit, if it grows your faith! Now Brandon has his own family, the sky is the limit for where they will go. His family is growing this year, God is still continuing healing and restoring all these years later and he will never stop. As his miracle was my go-to story, Brandon is my go-to. He will do anything that needs to be done and you can count on him. He may not see it in himself, but he resembles Jesus in many things he does.
That is my prayer, that you will see Jesus in my life and actions toward you. I want to radiate peace and love in our chaotic world and I expect God to help me do that and He does. If He will do it for me, then He will do it for you. Expect it! Don’t just hope things will come to you, expect it. Don’t just throw up a prayer with no faith behind it, expect it to be answered with faith that can move mountains.
EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED…and you will get it!
