What in the world is unsinkable faith? Do you have it or even have what it takes? I am learning a lot about myself on my unsinkable faith journey. The front cover of the book Unsinkable Faith says, “God-Filled Strategies to Transform the Way You Think, Feel and Live.” The take away for me in that tag line is transform, by definition transform means to make a thorough or dramatic change in the form, appearance, or character of________________.
A dramatic change, sometimes they are necessary; we cut our hair to make us feel better about how we look, we tan to get color and feel more confident. We can do many things to our outer appearance, but real transformation that makes a lasting difference takes place on the inside. In that all so special place of our minds through our thought processes! That is where our real transformations happen, we have to be in control of our thoughts and be responsible for them. It may sound easy and you may think you have yours in check, however we all have areas that could stand some improvement. In Tracie Miles book, Unsinkable Faith, she states facts that go along with scripture, I love that about this book. Here is one that really jumped off of the pages at me, “the average person has 50,000-70,000 thoughts each day, which equates to 35 to 48 thoughts per minute. Approximately 95% of our thoughts today are the same thoughts we had yesterday. To make matters worse, about 80% of those habitual thoughts are negative ones. Tens of thousands of negative thoughts cycle through our minds day after day after day, poisoning our attitudes and our outlooks one by one.” I don’t know about you, but I was shocked when I read this, it is sad and I found it to be quite true.
I am overall a pretty positive person on the outside, but I can be very cruel on the inside, I was recently complimented on my weight and appearance by a good friend. While, I have been working very hard at eating healthy and working on my appearance and have seen improvements on the scale, I still don’t see myself like that in the mirror. That is hard to admit publicly, but it is very true. I see stretch marks from my two bundles of joy, I see things jiggling that should be firm, etc. I think you get the point. Sadly, I tell myself all sorts of lies about this, I look in the mirror and see wrinkles and gray hairs, I see the remnants of adult acne, I don’t see what I know God sees, my thoughts run ramped. The kicker in this whole bizarre scenario is that I am the one who controls the thoughts, I have told myself something long enough that I can not escape the vicious cycle that I wasn’t even aware of until I read this book. I am in control of my thoughts, I try to be a control freak of everything else, why am I not doing the same with my thoughts?
Well, I can be…and so can you!
The tools that are laid out in the pages of Unsinkable Faith are priceless, they are changing my life. I am training my thoughts to be like Christ, I am viewing myself in a whole new way. I am viewing my relationships in a whole new light, I am looking at it from the other side and I like what I am seeing. God created our minds to be unique, not to criticize. There are very real truths laid out in the pages of this book, practical tips to tackle our thoughts and make them into the truths they are supposed to be.
I am fearfully and wonderfully made! I am made in the image of Christ! For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper me, not to harm me.
I want to encourage you today to be your biggest fan, love yourself so that you can love others better. Let’s be intentional to love, starting with ourselves.
What if your child or niece/nephew ever said any of these negative things about themselves?
-I would personally be devastated to know that they thought any less of them selves than gold or silver. Let’s be a generation that stops self harm, self hate, let us each be people who lead by example. Start with yourself today! We can make a difference.
Lets be known for loving what we see looking back in the mirror, let us build one another up instead of tearing each other down.
Challenge for the day: Every time you want to say something negative, stop yourself and compliment someone, if you’re alone, drop someone a text and say something nice to them.
The quality of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts. -A.R. Bernard
