Where do you find your value?
This message is always on my heart, we all want to be valued in one way or another. We want to be important, we want to be noticed. Some find value in their status or their job, some find it wealth, some find it in the things they have acquired.
So really ask yourself right now, where do you find your value?
I have searched for my value in many places, I wanted to be somebody so I went to college, I thought an education from the University of Kentucky would make me important. While that was fun and I was able to get a great job our of college, it didn’t give me lasting value.
I then became a wife, a mother, a care-giver; those are all important jobs but they don’t define who I am.
Then, I decided to open up a retail shop. That will make me into a big deal, nope, didn’t find it there either. Maybe a big house with a pool, that will be fun, we can have parties and that will give us value. False, didn’t happen there either.
Do you see any similarities here, I was chasing after something but never finding it! I was constantly trying to fill a void, while I’ve quickly outlined 20+ years of my life and left out many details.; the fact remains that I tried to find value in many places. What I have come to learn from this life is that my only real, lasting value is in Jesus Christ.
I didn’t easily get to this, what I left out here is a lot of pain, trials and heartache. The real point is that I did this to myself through my choices. I was choosing to believe that my worth was going to be in my status. That is just a lie. Our worth is found in the type of person we choose to be; the kind of life we choose to live, my worth is found in Jesus. Because, in the end, He is the only one I will have to answer to. He is the only one that matters, I have put different people and ideals in front of my relationship with Him my whole life.
Sometimes, I chose not to walk with Christ for fear of what others would think, sometimes it’s because I wanted to do things my way and only took God’s word as a suggestion.
God definitely works in His own timing and now I can use my life as a testimony. I read this quote today and it spoke to me right where I am, “God often chooses those known as nobodies from nowhere, who simply have chosen to be alone with Him.” God has chosen me to share my story simply because I have chosen Him. I have found my value and worth in Him, He makes all of my other relationships make sense. He loves me more than any one else, He made me exactly the way that I am.
Following the quote I mentioned above, the author said. “Sometimes God calls those from the backside of nowhere, because they’ve learned how to walk beside Him anytime.” That’s me, I am walking with Christ all of the time. I have tried life my way, I have taken the selfish route and it doesn’t add up. It doesn’t bring happiness, I have made a choice to walk with Christ daily. To take Him everywhere I go. To live a life of great value, and it has nothing to do with me and everything to do with my Lord and Savior.
Won’t you please consider where you find your value today? Look inside and see where God wants to use you. Many great people of the past that have done great things had no credentials to do so, they acted out of love, they were obedient to hear God’s word and put it into practice.
I have often times complicated my Christian walk, when it really only requires my obedience. I just have to be willing to live the life that Christ has called me to. Pretty easy, really. Don’t complicate it! Just be the best version of yourself that you can be, God will do the rest if you are willing to let Him.
