I have been majorly blessed with a good Mom, I’ve heard horror stories of Mom’s and the way they raise there kids. I’ve had friends with rough upbringings, I could never relate. I have been BLESSED with a fabulous Mom.
Let’s look at the traits that she exhibits that make her so wonderful!
She is clothed in dignity; she is only defined by her relationship with Jesus. She has faced many trials in this life, they have never been what defined her. Her faith and strength in God is what has defined her.
She is selfless; no explanation needed. But I’ll give you one anyway. She will do anything she can for anyone. She councils people, works through their difficulties as she faces her own. She is a full-time care giver. We have opened our home to many people, for years at a time.
She fears God! This should possibly be listed first, for it makes all of the others possible. I heard in a sermon yesterday, that a woman who fears the Lord produces the best fruit possible; the greatest achievement as a Mom. And that is, A family that loves and serves the Lord. Now, I’m sure if you know me then you know my crew, we are far from perfect but we all have a relationship with Jesus and we serve the Lord.
All of the time she spent on her knees, sharing Jesus to kids and grandkids who mocked her, loving us in spite of who we were are getting answered. Jesus loves each of us and my Mom that much that he heard the cries of her heart and He is answering her prayers. We have not been an easy crew to raise, very independent sure our way was better than hers and Jesus’ for sure.
I want to encourage you today to keep praying, keep believing, knowing that Jesus will come through for you just like He comes through for my Mom. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Start your children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”
My Mom started us all off in the word of God, she took me everywhere she went. I went to conferences with her, she prayed over me and for me. While I had my run as the prodigal son, I returned to My Father’s arms. My Mom has always been there for me, lovingly correcting me back on the right path.
While I was not with her yesterday, I carry her with me everywhere I go. I want in the coming year to honor her everyday not just on the one Sunday set apart by the calendar. I want to show her gratitude and love for raising me in a way that gives life and creates a purpose.
So, that brings me to my own life as a mother! You know the last year has been different for us, we haven’t been very stable and sometimes my short-tempered self shines. I sometimes lose patience between homeschooling on the road, packing the car for weekly rides back and forth, their have been many variables that I sometimes don’t handle the best. I raise my voice, I am unreasonable at times, I began to wonder yesterday how the boys view me. I assumed they would say, mad, angry, fussy. Because some days I ask them 562 times to stop pushing each other’s buttons. I ground them from their favorite things when they get sassy, I don’t take their crap very easily. So, those are the things I dwell on.
So, I decided to ask them each how they viewed me, in fear of what I would hear. I was amazed at their little hearts, they both blessed me with their words. They see the good in me, they delighted as they told me the things that I do well. They didn’t point out my weaknesses, so why do I?
This is the same way that God views us, He sees our strengths, He knows what we are capable of! This is how my mom views me, with the eyes of Jesus. Do you view your kids the same way? Do you love them with the love of Christ?
Their is too much at stake not to love them like Jesus does!
Are you training them up to be the next generation of our world? What if it was never about us and our mark on the world but what if it’s about the types of children we raise!
Are we doing a good job? It’s never to late to start! I know I have some areas that need improvement and today is a fresh new day!
I believe God is going to use the smallest generation of my family (my Mom and Dad’s legacy) to do great things, He is strategically placing each one right where He wants them. It’s up to us as their parents to equip them to be ready to take on the world!
