The answer to that is a lot! We are taking day-to-day to a whole new level. I’m slow to embrace it, however when I do…the peace! ahhh….
Think about it for yourself?
I have had weeks where it started one way and by the end of the week my life was changed. The first one I think of is when we went into back surgery for my Dad on Monday and by the end of the week we learned that he had terminal cancer, that was a big one. Or maybe, when I went into the hospital and came out a Mommy-I had no clue what that change would bring about. Or maybe keeping it simple, I go into Monday with a renewed strength to eat better and by Friday I’m buried in cupcakes and ice cream. I could go on and on, but the point is that life is unpredictable. We just simply can’t know what God has in store for us, one truth we can stand on is that we are his masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good He planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:10)
That verse combined with the sermon I heard at church yesterday is speaking so much to me today, “so we can do the good that he planned for us long ago”, God has always known how our lives were going to go. He knew that I would stray for a while, that doesn’t matter anymore. What matters is that He has plans for me, He has known them for a long time. I just needed to stop what I was doing and listen to Him and His direction. God’s love for me isn’t based on what I do for Him or others-its based on who He is. It’s not about you or me, it’s about Him. We don’t need to be scared of God, we need to embrace Him. We have to believe!
Our lives can change dramatically in a week, they can change in a day. Everyday is not going to be perfect because we live in an imperfect world, there will be suffering, their will be joy, their will be hardships. Yesterday, we talked about this in church, he said something that will forever be with me. When we do suffer, it makes us like Him. I honestly have been trying to resemble the life and walk of Jesus, I try to love the unlovable, I try to see both sides of the story, I often fall short-I still continue. I have been trying to do everything that I can to live a life that gives the glory to God. However, when I heard that and as I am processing it, it is speaking(shouting) to me. Jesus life’ was hard, he was mocked, he was beaten, he faced sad things, his cousin was beheaded. He suffered. So, when things don’t always go the way I want them to my prayers are actually being answered.
In John 16:33, Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
He has overcome the world, it is past tense. He has already done it, so we don’t need to continue to try. We just need to live the best life that we can, knowing that it has been overcome. We need to live a life that points people to Jesus. Plain and Simple. Do good, be the bigger person, endure suffering knowing that we are becoming more like Jesus with each unexpected turn, be present, love everyone, be real, stand for what is right, be WHO YOU were created to be long ago.
