Life’s not about me, it’s not about you. It’s about who we encounter and how we handle that. I am learning that there is not much room if any at all for selfishness. When we are selfish we don’t see the needs of others around us, and I think that is what this life is all about. Seeing a need and meeting it. Simple. Acting in the moment with love and grace, not casting judgement. Not always understanding and trying to make sense of everything and reasoning it out. Just being a do-er.
So, this brings me to today’s topic. Giving…I have wanted to do this with my boys, this year they have jumped on board and we are going to use the 24 days of December leading up to Christmas to share the love of God with our community. I am sharing this with you in case you want to do the same. Imagine a world where we all put others before ourselves, I think that would be a pretty amazing place to reside. The following link is a suggested calendar, you can tweak your own to fit your families needs.
2 Corinthians 9:7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
We may not do each act of kindness on each day listed, we will do them all according to our daily schedules. Some of them will require coming out of our comfort zones and each thing that we can do anonymously will be done so. We are not trying to glorify ourselves through this, but point everyone to Jesus because of our actions. I hope you are encouraged to pick out at least one day and do it with your family or by yourself. I can’t wait to share how these go, I plan on keeping a journal of each act of giving and recording how we felt and how we saw God move in the situations he placed us in.
I pray you will spend the next 24 days being the gift, just as Jesus was the gift to each of us so many years ago. He really is the gift that keeps on giving, just as we can also be a gift to the world around us by sharing his love through us with those he places in our paths each day.
God Bless and Happy Giving!
Proverbs 18:16 A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great.
