As we celebrate the real meaning of this Christmas season, we often times need to be reminded that it is better to give than receive. And I mean, give our best. Not our leftovers, it’s easy to get caught up in checking off to-do lists and making final preparations. But. Somehow Christmas gets transformed into a frenzy of holiday blubber instead of real down to the bones cheer.
We all have so much to be grateful for this year, choose to highlight all of your accomplishments instead of the areas where you fell short. See yourself the way Jesus sees you. As a beautiful masterpiece, a wonderful work in progress. Know that you won’t get it right every time and that is ok. As a Christian, we are to be striving to be more like Jesus everyday.
That brings me to today, how exactly can one do that? Simple. See a need, meet that need.
When you see something that needs to be done, do it! Don’t plan a meeting, write out a strategy. Simply do it, don’t say…I was going to, but….don’t make excuses, don’t pass judgement of how the person got there. JUST DO IT! be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Do your own research, Jesus came to heal the sick and the lost; to minister to the broken. He didn’t set back and contemplate whether they were worth his time or if he had already met with them before and they weren’t getting it. He simply met them right where they were and thank God he does that for me and for you.
What needs are going unmet in your home?
In your church?
Just think what it would look like if we all put others before ourselves! It would be beautiful.
Here are some ideas for you, if you’re looking for a place to start.
We made these up to place around town for our 24 days of Giving challenge. The ones with the $1 are taped on items at the Dollar Tree. The quarters are for game or candy machines.
We made homemade gifts for each other in our house this year to share with one another on Christmas Eve. A new tradition, well see how it goes. Ha. The item couldn’t cost any money and should fill a need.
Look around your neighborhood, we delivered candy to a few of our neighbors and just simply said hello. It was fun and easy.
Impact a family! I started a go-fund me page for a sweet Family that are very dear to us. There are so many needs that can be met through support! If you find yourself with a surplus and want to do some year-end giving, there are a lot of great options on there. Here is the link for our friends if your interested.
And sometimes all you can do is pray and be an encourager. The goal is to think of others more than yourself.
