What are you going to do for 2018? Better yet, what is it going to do for you? I have turned the page on the new year with many high expectations of myself in the past, some I stuck with and some lasted 48 hours. It’s a shocker to my body to be consuming 1000 grams of sugar one day and then 5 the next, I’m not gonna lie about that. I want to share a few resolutions that have actually worked today, and give you a little hope for the new year.
The main thing that has controlled my eating is to eat to get healthy and not lose weight. It has been the only time that I actually incorporated habits that I have been able to stick with for a long period of time. Start simple by cutting back on your portions, eliminating soft drinks, and/or eating foods with very few ingredients in them. Those are the 3 biggest things that I can stick too, I don’t get them right all of the time but I do stick pretty close to them. My husband and I almost always share a meal when we go out to eat, we both get full and not stuffed and an added bonus, we save a few bucks too. Drink tons of water, it keeps you full and is a great habit to begin now. Eat as much whole food as possible, and slowly eliminate processed food. Find a simple thing that works for you and stick with it, being realistic with yourself is an easy way to stick to your resolution.
I see many people pick a word to live by for the year, I have never done this but think the idea is fabulous. The article I read, the author had picked the word, INTENTIONAL. What a great idea, what if we were intentional in everything that we did. What if we intended on making the lives of everyone around us better, strangers or those we hold very dear. I almost wanted to steal her word, but I may use it some. I am coming up with my own, I would love to hear what you come up with if you do this idea. As I was trying to find my own word, I came across this verse. “Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2 I think that I am going to use this as my theme for this year. If you really sink into this verse, and make it a focal point I think it could be a life changer.
Most of my past resolutions have been set on earthly things, this year I am going to shift my focus on things above. A blogger I love and follow wrote this yesterday and it spoke to my soul.
“When your new year is about making a revolution around Jesus-you are given everything you need to keep your resolutions.” -Ann Voskamp
What she is saying is so true! When you shift your focus, it will change your life, your outcome, your everything! She also asked the question, are you a Jesus user or a Jesus adorer? Think on that one today.
She followed that up by saying, the most important skill to have in 2018 is to live aware that Jesus is the only life we have. When Jesus overwhelms you-nothing that happens can overcome you.
Before you make a long list of things that you can’t do and putting limitations on yourself, why don’t you make a long list of things that you are capable of. Things that will change your life in 2018. Things that take the focus off of yourself and put it where it belongs-on things above…
